You can start your studies in the winter or summer semester, as most courses are offered every semester. You can therefore start in April or October. Three weeks before the start of the lecture period, all first-year students are offered a bridge course in mathematics to brush up on school mathematics and make the transition between school and university easier for you. This is also a good opportunity to familiarize yourself with the university and get to know your fellow students. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

You can gain insights into various research groups and actively make scientific discoveries as early as during your bachelor\u2019s degree program. Many research groups offer students paid positions as student assistants, which not only provides you with financial support, but can also be an important step towards an exciting scientific career. The Bachelor of Science degree program in Environmental Sciences forms the foundation for the advanced Master of Earth system Science offered at JGU.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

In the first two semesters, you will acquire a basic knowledge of meteorology and learn the fundamentals of experimental physics, mathematics, and chemistry. Right at the beginning, you will also work on a practical environmental science project. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the third semester onwards, you will get to know the processes and mechanisms of the atmosphere and how predictions are made, and learn how to carry out computer-based analyses and statistically evaluate the results.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, you will focus on further practical contents, such as how to work with measuring instruments, and go on practical excursions. You will also attend courses from one of the elective areas (audiovisual publishing, geography, or geosciences), giving you the opportunity to choose specific lectures and seminars and specialize in a particular subfield. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Near the end of your studies, you will have the opportunity to put the skills you have acquired into practice in a professional environment via an internship. In your bachelor's thesis, you can then take up your own research-related topic and gain practical experience in scientific work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n

To be able to study at JGU, you need to have earned a suitable university entrance qualification (HZB). An example of this is a German Abitur, but there are also other types of qualifications. <\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
