You can start your studies in the winter or summer semester<\/strong>, as most courses are offered every semester. You can therefore start in April or October. Three weeks before the start of the lecture period, all first-year students are offered a bridge course in mathematics to brush up on school mathematics and make the transition between school and university easier for you. This is also a good opportunity to familiarize yourself with the university and get to know your fellow students. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

You can gain insights into various research groups and actively make scientific discoveries as early as during your bachelor\u2019s degree program. Many research groups offer students paid positions as student assistants, which not only provides you with financial support, but can also be an important step towards an exciting scientific career. The Bachelor of Science in Meteorology degree program teaches the basics of meteorology and forms the foundation for the advanced Master of Science in Meteorology degree program.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Meteorologists can work in the field of weather forecasting<\/strong>, in researching and developing new weather products and computer models, or be responsible for producing forecasts based on model calculations and observations at radio or TV stations<\/strong>. Thanks to their scientific training, meteorologists are also employed by companies in the chemical, aerospace, shipping, automotive and combustion technology, <\/strong>and pharmaceutical sectors<\/strong> \u2013 wherever people are needed to evaluate satellite data or large databases. Meteorologists are also needed in the energy sector: In today’s world, it is especially important to use renewable energies<\/strong> as efficiently as possible \u2013 and this can only be done with a sound knowledge of meteorological relationships. Insurance companies<\/strong> now employ meteorologists who use computer-aided analyses and calculations to assess the risks of extreme weather<\/strong> events such as storms, floods, and droughts. However, meteorologists are also in demand as generalists who are particularly skilled at solving complex problems in other \u2013 not immediately apparent \u2013 areas: The techniques for understanding the development of a share price, for example, are the same as those used for analyzing long-term meteorological time series. Therefore, meteorologists are also in demand in the financial sector.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

In the first two semesters, you will focus on mathematics and physics, as the study of meteorology is based on these. You will also learn the basics of climatology and meteorology. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

From the third semester onwards, practical content is added: Physics and meteorology lab courses will teach you how to conduct experiments in the lab and use measuring equipment. You will also take interdisciplinary elective courses. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Starting in the fourth semester, you have the opportunity to choose lectures and seminars according to your personal focus. This allows you to specialize, opening up exciting fields of research. In addition, a four-week internship will give you the opportunity to apply the skills you have acquired in a professional environment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In your bachelor's thesis, you can then take up your own research-related topic and gain practical experience in scientific work.<\/p>\n\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
