We are very glad to announce the new Double Degree Program in Physics offered by the Johannes Gutenberg Universität (JGU) in Mainz, Germany, and the Universitat de València (UV) in València, Spain.

Students enrolled in this program will have the opportunity to study at both universities and will thus benefit from the expanded range of teaching and research. During their studies they will obtain the “Bachelor of Science in Physics” (JGU) after the third year and the “Degree in Physics” (UV) after the fourth year. Upon completing the final thesis in the fifth year, students will be awarded both the “Master of Science in Physics” from JGU and the “Master’s Degree in Advanced Physics” from UV.

Along the way, students in the Double Degree Program will considerably improve their language, inter-cultural, and networking skills which can significantly boost their future career in science or industry.

Students wishing to enroll in the program at the JGU will start their studies in Mainz and study for two years in Germany, then change for two years to the Universitat de València. Alternatively, students can enroll in the program at the UV, study for two years in Spain and then move for the next two years to the JGU. They can choose to do the master’s thesis either at JGU or at UV. Like that our double degree students have various options to shape their studies. For more details please have a look at the following study course plans. Students can…

As an international university in Germany, the JGU offers a top-level undergraduate and graduate education in physics. The teaching philosophy at Johannes Gutenberg University stresses early research independence on all degree levels. Small group sizes and an excellent student-teacher ratio in physics ensure individual mentoring and thorough learning progress. Students thus acquire versatile analytical skills which position them very well in the job market and are a great foundation for their career.

On campus, the JGU offers unique infrastructure for physics: for instance the particle accelerator MAMI and the neutron research reactor TRIGA. Particular physics research strengths at JGU include: nuclear and particle physics, condensed matter physics, spintronics, dark matter searches, astroparticle physics, and quantum information. At the University Mainz students have the opportunity to join research groups early on during their studies and get hand-on experience in the research field.

The Faculty of Physics at the University of Valencia, established in 1977, is one of Spain’s leading centers for physics education and research. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs in Physics, and Optics and Optometry. With a strong emphasis on both theory and application, the faculty plays a crucial role in advancing scientific knowledge and training experts for academia, industry, and research.

Located within the University of Valencia Science Park, several research institutes enhance the faculty’s impact. The Institute of Corpuscular Physics (IFIC), a joint center with the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), specializes in particle, astroparticle, and nuclear physics, collaborating with CERN and other international institutions. The Institute of Materials Science (ICMUV) focuses on nanotechnology, photonics, and quantum materials, while the Institute of Molecular Science (ICMol) develops functional molecules for applications in electronics and energy storage. The Astronomical Observatory of the University of Valencia (OAUV) contributes to astrophysics research and public outreach. These institutions create a dynamic environment that strengthens the faculty’s position as a key player in international scientific innovation.

There is a limited number of placements. You need to be enrolled in your second year of the Physics Bachelor of Science at JGU or, respectively, in the second year of the Physics degree at UV. Language skills are required (at the european B1 level or higher) in german, spanish (or catalan), and english.

In order to apply please contact us for details (see contact information and contact form below).
